Since this week was election week in many districts around the country, I thought I’d share my one political song, written in 2016 after a very distressing, divisive presidential election.
You got what you wanted, now whatcha gonna do?
The future of our world is dependent on you
Now you have the power, the highest in the land
Glaring from your tower down at your fellow man
I wanted to give the new president a chance but so many things that came out of his mouth infuriated me and the effect his words had on others saddened me.
Words matter, but actions matter more
Think before you speak, listen before you roar
You’ve unleashed the demons, endorsing hateful views
Progress shifts direction with so much to lose
Faith trembles, hope nowhere to be found
An apprentice ruler trying on his crown
When I woke up
I hoped it was all a dream
Changing the channels
In disbelief
Yes, he did some positive things and many things are a mess today after the change in administration. I wasn’t aiming to make a political statement here, I just think the words of leaders matter because they play a major role in civil discourse and I wish more leaders today lived their lives with integrity and thought more about how their actions affect others and the country as a whole.
